Hello beauties, today I am talking about The Body Shop Drops Of Light Pure Healthy Brightening Serum , a product that is pure love to me and rescued my face from a seemingly endless battle with acne scars. Keep reading to know our complete love story
Product Description-
Experience this lightweight peneterating serum that effortlessly glides to deliever efficient brightening whilst leaving skin supple and hydrated. Clinically tested to significantly reduce the number and intensity of dark spots.
Price-
INR 2450/- for 30 ml (I got it for INR 1960/- from Nykaa)
Packaging-
This serum comes in super cute white glass dropper bottle which is impressive because it is Vitamin C based serum and vitamin c oxidises really quickly and anything like a tub packaging is a complete no no.
Texture-
The texture of this transparent serum is just like water and it gets absorbed quickly but it does feel a little bit sticky if you apply too much.
Ingredients List-
Aqua/Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, PEG-20, Methyl Gluceth-20, Alchohol Denat., 3-0 Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Hydrolysed Soy Flour, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Rosa Centifolia Extract, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Palmaria Palmata Extract, Disodium EDTA, Propylene Glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Caprylyl Glycol, Citric Acid, Xanthum Gum, Pentylene Glycol, Sodium Benzoate, Salicylic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Linalool, Fragrance.
Ingredients Breakdown-
What to Fancy-
Vitamin C- I bought this serum mainly because it is a vitamin c based product as it lightens acne scars , induces collagen production hence also beneficial for aging skin, reduce UV damage and all that good stuff but it in its pure form ( L- ascorbic Acid) oxidises quickly, this serum contains it in the form of Ethyl Ascorbic Acid which is comparably Stable and hence you dont have to worry about your product going rancid.
Glycerin - One of the cheapest humectants meanwhile extremley hydrating, Thus seen in many skin care products.
Sodium Hyaluronate- It is a form of Hyaluronic Acid which is again a humectant and one of my favorite ingredients for skin care. A component of skin which binds collagen with elastin.
Salicylic Acid( BHA) - A boon for acne prone skin as it is very rude to acne/ acne scars, exfoliates, reduces blackheads and whiteheads, being an oil soluble ingredient it is able to peneterate deep into skin. But I do not think it would be of any help since it is among one of the last ingredients which means the concentration is very very low.
Citric Acid- pH adjuster.
Not So Fancy-
Alchohol Denat. - 6th Ingredient. What? One of the culprits leading to dry and dehydrated, seriously I don`t like alchohal in my skin care products, no, I hate it. I`m fine if it`s among one of the last ingredients but if its on the top (in high cocentration) I read it like -
Step1- Dries out natural oils in skin i.e. sebum.
Step2- Dehyrated Skin
Step 3- And finally Everyone`s dream- Pre mature aging.
I had to compensate by applying lots of hydrating and moisturising products.

My Experience -
I fell in love with this prince charming slowly and then all at once. For the first few weeks there was a love hate relationship among us, even though I loved the fact that it is a vitamin c based serum, I still could not see the effects I had from other vitamin c based products, But after one month of using this serum religiously I saw a coniderable reduction on my tan and my acne scars lightened a little bit. The bottle lasted me for 3 months, and in these 3 months this product has literally transformed my skin. ,My acne scars which were really stubborn are completely gone now and my face has a healthy glow. This product also claims to reduce the pore size but it does not stand true to this claim. As this product contains a hell lot of alchohol which dries skin, one will have to apply lots of hydrating and moisturising products. The best thing - it did not cause any acne on my amazing acne prone sensitive skin.
Although, the price is very high but since the product will last for approx 3 months so, you are paying 2400/3= 800 per month and if you got it for discount , its even cheaper.
The Right Way to Apply-
1. pH balanced Cleanser-
This serum would work on its maximum glory if applied the right way because it is a vitamin C based serum, which is pH dependent i.e. it only woks when your skin is on a certain pH so, the pH of your skin has to be slightly acidic to make the vitamin c work. Most of the face cleansers usually have a pH of 9-12 , thus you will need to use a pH balanced cleanser.
Recommendations- Sebamed facial cleansing foam ( pH 5.5 )
Bioderma Micellar Water ( pH 5 approx)
2. Sunscreen-
Vitamin C makes the skin sun sensitive , hence one should religiously apply suncreen of at least SPF 30 daily.
3. Most Importantly-
If you tend to apply toner I would recommed not using it because most of the toners contain active ingredients like AHA and BHA which actually neutralises the vitamin c hence making this product ineffective, and even if you toner is more on the hydrating side I would say apply your toner 20 minutes after applying the serum so you apply this product directly to your skin making it absorb better, but if your skin is super sensitive and reacts with every other active ingredient you can apply your favorite toner before the serum to reduce the effects of this serum, but this way you will see results comparatively slow.
Exception- A toner based on Vitamin c, as it will only increase the effectiveness.
4. Hydrate, Hydrate- .
Because this serum contains alchohal in very high concentration it can lead to dehydrated and dry skin so you need to slather your face with hydration and moisture. Make sure you apply any kind of moisturiser/ skin care product 15-20 minutes after applying this serum so that the active ingredients from both of the products do not mix. But if your skin can not tolerate soo many moisturisers, skip this serum.
Recommendations- Innisfree green tea moisture skin.
5. For Anti- Aging-
If you are planning to buy this serum for anti- aging benefits, you can also use a Centella Asiatica based product to increase its effectivenes.
Pros-
- Reduces Tan.
- Lightens Acne Scars.
- Simple yet cute packaging.
- Does not cause acne.
Cons-
- Contains alchohol.
- Price.
Products Used Along With This Serum-
1. Sebamed Facial Cleansing Foam
2. Innisfree Green tea Skin
3. Aura Vedic Night Repair Moisturising Lotion.
4. Sebamed Multi Protect Sun Spray SPF 30.
Will I Repurchase-
I do like this serum but I might buy the Vya Naturals Vitamin C serum after this because of the low price. But I am indecisive as it is a newly introduced brand.
Nice review
